Over the weekend I was a road warrior and headed to Vegas for the Nevada Democratic Caucus to volunteer at the event. My friends and I took action and set up registration booths, assisted residents and heard some pretty empowering speeches by a few senators.

I was able to document the event and was incredibly stoked to be part of all the other photojournalists there. My Photo Selects.

Then, late last night I got a notice from the Obama campaign that I made front page of www.barackobama.com

Today my mom found a box of old hi8 home videos so the family spent most of the day watching some of them. There was this one video from 1997. Seems like yesterday, it’s crazy that 15 years was just yesterday. We sat there laughing at one another, talking about our horrid wardrobe choices, make up and hair. Mostly it was nice to see the interaction that we had with one another. My brother dismissing the camera with a big wave to cover his face, my parents looking so plump and youthful. What will the next 15 years bring? Over the weekend I did a “time capsule”, one of those DIY projects. I added a bunch of photos, some concert ticket stubs, a receipt from Cafe Figaro as evidence of the wine carafe purchases that I love and random knick-knacks. I also tossed in a music mix that featured Duck sauce’s Barbra Streisand 2011 anthem. I hope that in 15 years I’ll be able to have some fine looking machine that will be able to play back my cd mix.

When I awoke this morning it took me a second to recollect what happened the night before.

Yep, it’s 2012.

Spent the day lazing around at brunch followed by a good walk around the Silverlake reservoir to enjoy the 80 degree winter weather.

Here’s to 2012… bring it.

We still have another month to wrap up the year but I couldn’t help but think of my favorite albums of 2011. These are albums that I played religiously in my life, solid from start to finish.

Beirut: The Rip Tide
This album is a little less up-tempo than the rest. Zach Condo’s voice drifts strongly from song to song leaving you enchanted. I’m a sucker for a large band ensemble.
Must listen to tracks: Goshen / The Rip Tide

Beastie Boys: Hot Sauce Committee Part 2
Crank up this album on a drive. The guys still have it. Can’t deny their original sound.
Must Listen to track: Make Some Noise

Feist: Metals
Oh boy, I read somewhere that Leslie Feist recorded this album up in a barn in Big Sur. Enough said. This album tries not to be too personal but it is. She just wails as she does best and in the process is able to let her listeners in.
Must Listen to track: Anti-Pioneer

M83: Hurry Up, we’re Dreaming
These French guys really know how to compose some great tracks. One becomes transported into “dream of high exhilaration”. They seem to have matured in vocals and weren’t afraid to try new things.
Must Listen to tracks: Splendor / Midnight City

Adele: 21
Need an explanation? This album is undoubtedly raw and gorgeous. Adele IS very deserving of all attention for this album.
Must Listen to tracks: Someone Like You / Turning Tables

Bon Iver: Bon Iver
It took me a while to take a listen but once I did, I never let go. Justin Vernon’s experimental blend of garage band origins are prominent and very personal.
Must Listen to tracks: Calgary / Perth

Drive (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Maybe I thought the movie kicked ass but this soundtrack encapsulated all moments. I can’t help but listen to this album driving down the empty streets of LA. Too bad I’m not sporting a rad white bomber jacket with the mega golden scorpion design on the back of it.

Rainy Sunday called for indoors hang out followed by some pinot noir. Now listening to the crackle vinyl sound of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas“ tonight. It truly hurts (like someone literally squeezing my heart) but I can’t help but think of how pretty & warming it sounds. I know it’s not even Thanksgiving but I’m looking forward to this season. These very short days/long nights are definitely *slightly lame* but yackity aka can’t change things – just roll with life – let it come. Arts, crafts, work and just getting into the spirit of my life. It’ll be a good season. Yes it will be.

As if I didn’t have enough time, I decided to join a book club. I partially joined it to mingle and partake in mimosa drinking each month to discuss the assignment. The first was Bossypants by Tina Fey. It was an easy read and I found myself laughing out loud at her quirky stories. Tina Fey a.k.a Liz Lemon is one cool motha! I also secretly wished that I were Tina’s new BFF.

The 2nd book was The Rum Diary by Hunter S. Thompson. A story of zany journalists parading through life in Puerto Rico and drinking rum like if it were water. It was definitely a rough start but enjoyed his description of the rising days that stirred his ambition. Thompson IS ALSO one cool motha!

Now to come, Joan Didion’s Blue Nights. Let’s see how that goes.
