More than a few “God bless you” responses were given while individually distributing food to the homeless in downtown. Their faces spoke volumes. Downtown is a weird mesh. You cross 6th and San Pedro and it’s a dismal community that developed as they gather for shelter at night. Wonder each person’s story and how they got there. Keep on driving a few blocks any direction and you’ll find that one person sitting alone watching the street move in action. It’s not the lack of shelter or diet that seems dire but the overwhelming sense of loneliness that they may go through. The Dalai Lama once said that he doesn’t get lonely, that one must open the heart. It’s pretty baffling to me and what about the guy on 7th & Wall st??
All in all, I’d like to think that today’s experience can be done more often year round. Can’t change the world but hope anything is possible.
